Celebrating with our Volunteers and VIPs!

Last week, Vintage Vibes got into the party spirit with style as team members, volunteers, and the over 60’s they have friendships with (known as VIPs) came together for their first in-person celebration since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Everyone gathered for a sit-down Christmas Dinner lovingly prepared by the Space Cafe team, followed by an afternoon of games, activities, and catching up with excellent company.

A couple of wonderful Christmas Elves from Amazon also popped by, with 50 lovely presents for our VIPs! Entertainment continued as the Vocal Vibes singing group treated us to some great tunes and got everyone in the holiday spirit.

The event was even featured on STV’s 6 o’clock News, where volunteers Wilma and Aly, and VIPs Irene and Betty shared their experiences of being part of the Vintage Vibes project.

What a tremendous way to round out another year of the fabulous Vintage Vibes project. We’re already looking forward to many more events in the New Year, and building even more connections between our VIPs and our incredible volunteers.

What is Vintage Vibes?

Vintage Vibes is a project dedicated to ensuring that everyone over 60 in Edinburgh lives a fulfilled life with friendship, respect, and participation. It started in 2015 from a partnership between LifeCare Edinburgh and Space @ The Broomhouse Hub to help Edinburgh’s lonely and isolated older people by providing companionship and support that is personalised to their needs and integrated with local communities. Volunteers are paired with VIPs for weekly meetups based on shared hobbies and interests.

“It was companionship that I was looking for – just somebody to come in and say hello.” – Irene

Vintage Vibes are always looking for new volunteers because we want to help put a smile on the faces of as many people as possible. Edinburgh is the loneliest city in the UK for over 60s, and you can make a difference at any age, in any situation.
