The Beacon Club Shortlisted for Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect Groups

We are delighted to announce that The Beacon Club has been shortlisted for funding from Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect Groups Awards. The Beacon Club is in the running to receive up to £15,000 in funds from this community award scheme.

For 160 years, Scotmid has worked closely with the communities they serve. The Community Connect Awards are available to good cause groups and projects across Scotmid’s trading areas within Scotland.

When a Scotmid Co-operative member visits a Scotmid Food store, they can scan their Community Connect Card when they reach the till and receive one Community Connect vote. Members are then able to register and attend one of the twice-yearly member meetings in order to cast their votes for the good cause group of their choosing. In-store voting is also available until April 16th, 2023 for any members that are unable to attend these meetings.

All three of the good cause groups that are shortlisted in the region will receive a share of the £25,000 fund. £15,000 will be allocated to the group with the most votes, with £5,000 each distributed to the remaining two.

The Beacon Club is a stimulating service providing enrichment for older people with dementia by supporting people through fun, social activities each weekday. Here at Space, we are passionate about improving the quality of life for our Beacon Club members and their support teams. The Beacon Club also provides a space to alleviate social isolation for those without dementia with great day trips out in the local community and beyond. If the Beacon Club is something you think you would like to get involved in, check out some feedback from Beacon Club members, their family members, and some of our volunteer team here.

We are inviting everyone in our community that is a Scotmid Co-operative member to register their votes for the Beacon Club to receive this much-needed funding, so that we may continue to offer support to our valued club members. Please note that we are nominated within the Scotland East region so members that wish to cast their votes in-store must do so in a shop in any of the following postcodes: EH, KY, TD, DD6 or be registered at an address within these areas.

If you are not already a Scotmid Co-operative member you can pick up a membership form directly from The Broomhouse Hub, within your local Scotmid store, or you can call their Membership and Community team on 0131 335 4433. Click here to find out more information about becoming a Scotmid member. New members will also receive a £10 voucher from Scotmid to spend in their stores.
