About Space:

Over the course of the pandemic, Space Kitchen produced 285,700 meals for people in South West Edinburgh. Along with our neighbours The Broomhouse Growers, we grew and harvested 685kg of fruit and vegetables to give to the local community.

Space is a Scottish charity working to improve the happiness, mood & mental wellbeing of our community members. We do this by nurturing, supporting and inspiring people of all ages so that lives are fuller, potential is fulfilled and community connections flourish.

Space is based within The Broomhouse Hub, a new state-of-the-art community building housing a community training café. We deliver 17 projects, with 50+ staff and 250 volunteers. We deliver diverse services supporting young people, families, older people, and carers amongst others, engaging with local people more than 34,000 times last year.

More information about Space and our projects can be found HERE

The Role:

The Catering Assistant will be a key member of our small, friendly kitchen team at Space.

It will be a varied role, with no two days the same, duties will include:

  • Preparing and serving food within our Community Café, including making hand-made pizzas
  • Working with kitchen trainees and volunteers on basic food preparation skills and food hygiene practices
  • Making deliveries for our external catering events, using a company vehicle
  • Collecting stock & supplies, using a company vehicle
  • Ensuring the company vehicles are regularly maintained

At least 1 year of kitchen experience is required, but there will be lots of training opportunities including pizza making.

As driving is a key part of this role we require someone with a full, clean driving license who is confident about driving a small van.

We have trainees working within the kitchen who may have additional support needs, so all of our kitchen team must have a calm, patient, and compassionate nature.

Hours will be mostly between 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday, with some early evening and weekend work.
