Position: Kitchen Supervisor

Hours: 36 hours per week over 4/5 days, with some evening and weekend working

Salary: £23-26,000 per annum, depending on experience

Annual Leave:  32 days in year one, increasing to 37 days from year two. This includes some public holidays and two-week closure over Christmas.

Pension: 5% employers contribution

About Space:

Over the course of the pandemic, Space Kitchen produced 285,700 meals for people in South West Edinburgh. Along with our neighbours The Broomhouse Growers, we grew and harvested 685kg of fruit and vegetables to give to the local community.

Space is a Scottish charity working to improve the happiness, mood & mental wellbeing of our community members. We do this by nurturing, supporting and inspiring people of all ages so that lives are fuller, potential is fulfilled and community connections flourish.

Space is based within The Broomhouse Hub, a new state-of-the-art community building housing a community training café. We deliver 17 projects, with 50+ staff and 250 volunteers. We deliver diverse services supporting young people, families, older people, and carers amongst others, engaging with local people more than 34,000 times last year.

The Role:

Space Kitchen is recruiting for a Kitchen Supervisor to be a key member of the team, ensuring efficient production of high quality food for Space Community Café and external catering events.

The Kitchen Supervisor will:

  • Produce a high standard of fresh food dishes, adhering to recipes and stock control procedures.
  • Take a lead role in the day-to-day kitchen operations including provision of on the job support to a small team of catering assistants, trainees and volunteers to develop their skills and confidence.
  • Maintain Food Safety and Health & Safety standards.
  • Be a role model within the kitchen, sharing best practice and efficient ways of working in a constructive way.

The right person for this role will have at least 2 years experience of working in a professional kitchen at CDP or Sous Chef level.
You will have strong knowledge of HACCP and Food Safety regulations.

And most importantly you will demonstrate your ability to go about your work with a calm and patient approach.
