Find your calling with Space at The Broomhouse Hub
Space is taking part in Scotland’s largest Volunteer Fair on 14th September 2022 with Volunteer Edinburgh at St Paul’s and St George’s Church on York Place. We have a number of engaging and rewarding positions available.
Last year, Space at Broomhouse Hub delivered 15,000 volunteer hours, supporting people of all ages. There lots of different opportunities to get involved with the work of Space, such as BookBug, helping our newest generation develop a love of reading while encouraging imagination and learning through play. There are also opportunities for befriending with our Youth and Families team, supporting young people in kinship care or who have challenging lives at home.
Space Age Connections and The Beacon Club support older people with dementia. The Beacon Club is a day care service which provides respite for carers while Space Age Connections brings older people together with a befriender for socialising, trips out or just a cup of tea and a chat. Last but not least Vintage Vibes, delivered in partnership with Lifecare Edinburgh, also provides befriending for older people across the city.
Neil Hay, Chief Executive, Space at Broomhouse Hub said:
“Post pandemic we have seen a huge rise in demand for our services. Tackling isolation and loneliness, providing respite for carers and giving support to all ages are nevermore needed. Like many charities, we simply could not do what we do without our volunteers.
“We are lucky to have over 200 volunteers supporting our services but we expect demand for our help to continue to increase over the coming year. Volunteering with Space is rewarding, ever changing and life affirming. If you can spare a few hours a week, have a positive outlook and enjoy working with other people, in groups or alone, drop by our stand or get in touch.”
All volunteers undergo any necessary training and will be given a PVG check. Space has an excellent employment and training team too and volunteering can be a route to work. Opportunities can be tailored around work or other commitments.
Seek us out at the Edinburgh Volunteer Fair between 10:30am and 6:30pm on 14th September. If you are unable to come along, you can make enquiries by emailing admin@spacescot.org or by following us on social media.
