Looking to kick start a career or get back into employment? Our Training Academy, part of our Learning and Development Service, has something for all ages, backgrounds and abilities! If you are wanting to learn new skills or get help to find work, then we can help!

Space Training Academy works with people to reduce barriers to employment while developing essential skills for life and work that take people towards, or closer to, finding paid employment.

Our projects include a range of training & support:

  • Planning Futures for Parents: a six-week employability and personal development course, a weekly women’s group called “Women’s Collective”, a skills development group, a Young Mums group, customer service training and a Women into Business training course.
  • Pick ‘n’ Mix to Employment for 16-24 year olds: we run three groups per week, one wellbeing, focusing on confidence and mental health. One ‘job taster’, where we get to try out different roles and one employability, focusing on interview techniques and CV writing amongst other things! We recruit young people four times per year and work with them to feel more positive about their future and the world of work. We support young people to find future opportunities and to co-design this project.
  • Space Station: Foundations in catering and hospitality: An eight-week course (one morning per week) with an additional employability session (optional). Includes knife skills, food hygiene, food preparation, barista coffees and customer service. Upon completion of the course, trainees are supported to progress to a training placement (in our community café or elsewhere). This is one of the most in need sectors for employment in Edinburgh at the moment and over half of our last intake went on to secure work in hospitality!

Don’t just take our word for it though! Watch our video to learn more about the success we have had encouraging people into jobs and training to help them start a career!

Zoe took part in our Pick N’ Mix training and now gets to play around in Supercars for a living! Wissam is a member of our women’s Collective and is now taking a course in community development at a local college. Other members of the group have even gone on to start their own businesses!

So! If you are a school leaver looking to get some practical employment skills, have been out of work and are looking to improve your CV or simply wanting to try a new challenge contact us today and start your Space adventure!
