Championing the Women of Broomhouse

A member of our Women's Collective delivers her International Women's Day presentation to the rest of the group.

This International Women’s Day, we want to highlight the incredible members of our Women’s Collective group! To celebrate, the women came together for their usual weekly session in The Broomhouse Hub to discuss, honour, and remember the great work that women have achieved.

As part of the event, the women that attend our English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) class learned about the history behind International Women’s Day. They each wrote an inspiring speech about themselves, what it means for them to be women in their own cultures, and their hopes for the future. The women then gave presentations to the group to share their experiences with each other.

This event also marked the end of a block of art sessions that the Learning and Development team had been running for the Women’s Collective. These art sessions were designed as a safe space and an opportunity for women to relax, reflect, and learn new skills.

“I love the course and I always feel comfortable when I come to class.”

The women created some really beautiful pieces of artwork, including mandala circles, still life, and greeting cards for International Women’s Day. At the end of the event, everyone enjoyed some slices from Outta Space Pizza, which went down a treat!
