Thank you for all of your support this Christmas

As we close in on the final few days of the year, we want to take the opportunity to recognise all of the tremendous work that has been carried out in support of Space @ The Broomhouse Hub this month. We have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of organisations and individual supporters that have come forward to ensure that our wonderful community members are guaranteed cherished memories, a present for every child, and food in the cupboards this Christmas.

How you helped the community this December

“Thank you so much for the vouchers and the surprise bag of goodies that I had no idea we were getting, this will help my family to be able to have a lovely Christmas after such a difficult few months. Being made homeless recently has had an impact on the kids so this will truly brighten up their Christmas.”

Edinburgh Christmas Family Funfair

Edinburgh’s Christmas kindly donated an amazing 900 vouchers to our Youth & Families projects to use on rides at this year’s Festive Family Funfair in Santa Land, along with 50 tickets for the Forth 1 Big Wheel, and 50 Lidl GB on Ice tickets for ice skating on George Street.

Youth & Families Pantomime

An incredible 250 children and young people from the Youth Befriending, Big Hearts Befriending, Young Carers, Bookbug, Friday Night Youth Club, and PHEW projects – along with volunteers and staff – travelled through to the Howden Park Centre in Livingston to watch the Martin and Martin Theatre Company’s production of ‘Mother Goose’. This was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Johnston Smillie Charitable Trust.

Forth 1 Cash For Kids

Our Youth & Families team have been hard at work delivering the lovely Christmas presents kindly donated through Cash For Kids Mission Christmas. These gifts will have an incredible impact on so many families, especially at a time when the decision to “heat or eat” is a real choice this winter.

“Thank you so much for my child’s Christmas presents, it is very much appreciated”

“Thanks so much, I wasn’t expecting this! Wow. We are very overwhelmed with gratitude, thanks very much.”

GTG Training Toy Drive

The wonderful elves from GTG Training popped around last week to drop off presents for our Youth and Families team. A huge thank you to the GTG team, you have helped to ensure a lovely Christmas for so many young people this year!

Johnston Smillie Donation of Christmas Presents

Not only did the Johnston Smillie Charitable Trust support our Youth & Families team by funding a trip to the pantomime, they went a step further and generously donated £1,000 to put towards Christmas presents for all of the young people supported by this service. Thank you so much for all of your support this year!

Christmas Food Hampers

The Charitable Trust of the Society of High Constables of Edinburgh very kindly donated food parcels and hampers to Space @ The Broomhouse Hub, which we have distributed to a number of families within the local community. These were greatly received, with one family shedding a few tears at the kindness offered to them.  They said “this food will really help us out as we are struggling financially right now”. Donations like these have such an incredible impact.

Enrichment for older people with dementia

Capital Theatres gifted a series of wonderful donations to support members of The Beacon Club, which provides an enriching and stimulating day care service for older people with dementia. They were treated to a captivating performance of Scottish Ballet’s The Snow Queen along with an interactive performance by Michelle Burke and James Ross in their unique dementia-friendly sensory show, “The Christmas Box”.

Community Meals

We held a number of community-based meals during December, including a joint event with B Healthy Together and a series of afternoons where we invited you to Coorie In to The Hub with funding from the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. In each case, members of the community came together to enjoy a nutritious hot meal with fellow Broomies in a comforting and warm space. We also held a Community Meal with the I Love Broomhouse group, providing an afternoon of fun for young children with food, activities, and a movie.

Thank you to everyone that has supported Space @ The Broomhouse Hub in the work that we carry out and the services that we provide to Broomhouse and the wider community. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a wonderful New Year when it comes.
