Volunteer Youth Befriender
Youth Befriending at Space provides one-to-one befriending for children and young people aged 5-16 who are experiencing difficulties in their lives due to parental drug and alcohol use.
The service supports children and young people to learn new skills and provides a social experience to help increase self-esteem and support them to deal with worries, through regular one to one’s.
Space Youth Befriending aims to provide support for 40 young people in Broomhouse and South West Edinburgh.
Experience Required
No qualifications are necessary as full volunteer training will be provided.
Experience of spending time with children and young people and some knowledge of the current issues affecting children and young people and their families is desirable.
Training Details
Training over 4 weeks, 1 evening per week for 2 hours.
Flexibility & Commitment
After the training programme we require a commitment of 2-3 hours per week for minimum 12 months.
Location/Travel Details
The Broomhouse Hub, EH11 3RH and potentially other areas in South West Edinburgh
Expenses
We provide cover for all travel expenses and a monthly activity budget for the duration of the befriending sessions.
